Matheson’s Debt Capital Markets team advises international and domestic financial institutions and corporations involved in arranging and executing debt issuances both in and from Ireland. The team draws extensively on the specialist skills and technical expertise from the Finance and Capital Markets Department and the Tax Department. The Debt Capital Markets team is rated Tier 1 for Structured Finance and Debt Capital Markets by Chambers Europe, the Legal 500 and IFLR1000.
The Debt Capital Markets team advises arrangers, issuers, managers, guarantors and trustees on all forms of secured and unsecured corporate debt issuance transactions including public and privately placed bond issues, bank and non-bank capital structures and commercial paper programmes. The team has advised Irish corporates in relation to the issuance of guaranteed subordinated debt and domestic financial institutions in relation to the issuance of senior and subordinated debt and compliance with Tier 1 capital requirements.

Representative transactions include:
- Acting as counsel to the Arranger and Lead Manager in connection with the establishment of a €10 billion EMTN unsecured note issuance programme for an Irish credit institution.
- Advising PartnerRe Ltd. on its debut €750 million Eurobond offering. The €750 million 1.25% Guaranteed Notes due 15 September 2026 (the Notes) were issued by PartnerRe Ireland Finance DAC and guaranteed by PartnerRe Ltd. The Notes were listed on the Main Securities Market of the Irish Stock Exchange and Matheson also acted as Irish listing agent. The successful Eurobond offering, represented the first issuance ever of a Bermuda insurer and reinsurer in the Euro-denominated bond market.
- Acting as Irish counsel to an Irish corporate in relation to the issuance of €250,000,000 perpetual callable guaranteed securities.
- Advising a multi-national with significant Irish operations in relation to the issuance and listing of several billion euro of unsecured corporate debt.
- Acted as lead counsel for an international asset manager, in the establishment of a number of Irish companies to raise finance to invest in renewable power projects throughout Europe.
