Expertise
Raphael is a partner in the Tax Department and has been based in the firm's London office since 2021. Raphael's practice focusses on the financial sector, including asset management, aviation leasing and capital markets. Raphael has particular experience advising on the tax aspects of establishing and operating Irish private equity and private credit fund structures.
Raphael is a member of the international tax working group of Irish Funds, the representative body for the international investment fund community in Ireland.
Raphael is a qualified solicitor and a qualified tax consultant and is a member of the Law Society of Ireland and the Irish Taxation Institute. Raphael trained with another leading Irish law firm before joining Matheson as an Associate in 2018.
Raphael has recently advised and assisted on the following matters:
- The establishment of various private credit fund structures, including a $12bn direct-lending platform for a leading US-based asset manager.
- The establishment of various private equity fund structures, including a €4bn fund for a European private equity manager.
- A $2.6bn business combination of an Irish-registered biotech with a NASDAQ-listed SPAC.
- The establishment of numerous Irish aircraft leasing businesses.
