Matheson LLP is delighted to have won Ireland Firm of the Year and, for the second year in a row, Pro Bono Firm of the Year at the Women in Business Law EMEA 2024 Awards, held in London on Wednesday, 26 June.

With more award wins than any other Irish law firm, four Matheson lawyers also received five individual awards on the night in the following categories, celebrating their expertise and leadership in their respective fields:

  • Sally Anne Stone, Partner  – ESG Leader of the Year and Real Estate Lawyer of the Year
  • Susanne McMenamin, Partner – Corporate Governance Lawyer of the Year
  • Caroline Austin, Partner  –Tax Dispute Resolution Lawyer of the Year
  • Audrey Kean, Senior Associate – Rising Star, Tax

The Women in Business Law EMEA Awards were launched in 2011 and, since then, have continued to recognise leading women lawyers for their contributions to the practice of business law, along with the firms that have developed the most progressive initiatives towards diversity and inclusion throughout  the region.  The awards celebrate excellence and innovation across the legal sector from today's leading lawyers.

Matheson had been shortlisted in a total of 21 categories, including for ‘Career Development'.  At an individual lawyer level, including the four individual winners, a total of thirteen Matheson lawyers were shortlisted and recognised.  Those shortlisted included: Angela Brennan, Aviation Lawyer of the Year; Maireadh Dale, Banking & Finance Lawyer of the Year; April McClements, Commercial Arbitration Lawyer of the Year and Insurance & Reinsurance Lawyer of the Year; Aisling Kavanagh, Litigator of the Year; Deirdre Crowley, Privacy & Data Protection Lawyer of the Year; Michelle Daly, Tax Lawyer of the Year; Gráinne Boyle, Rising Star, Corporate; Michelle Holligan, Rising Star, Finance; and Aishlinn Gannon, Rising Star, Litigation.

Congratulations to each of the winners and to those who were shortlisted.

Commenting on Matheson's success, Managing Partner, Michael Jackson, said:  “To be named both Ireland Firm of the Year and Pro Bono Firm of the Year is a fantastic endorsement of the focus we in Matheson place on living our values.  Partnership, Respect, Innovation, Diversity and Entrepreneurship are embedded into everything we do, and these awards are a fitting recognition of the efforts not just of those who have been shortlisted and who have received awards, but also of those from everyone in the firm who work so hard to live those values.”

“They are a key component of how we drive innovation and success, and to see the firm and so many of our female lawyers succeed at these prestigious awards is a wonderful recognition of their skills, hard work and expertise.  I want to offer my congratulations to all of those who were shortlisted and especially to the winners.”
